ScienceThis week in science students wrapped up their first artifact for the astronomy project. One of the main skills we've been working on in class is learning how to plan a long term project. This involves setting their own due dates. With all of the snow days we've had recently it's been a great opportunity for the students to learn how to adjust their plans when events outside of their control impact their planning. Some of your children have probably ask you for feedback on their artifacts, but if they haven't I highly recommend asking them what they are up to. If you happen to take a look at their work there's a specific feedback for them to fill out. You'll find a link for the form on the project website. When we come back from break students will begin to work on their second artifact. For this artifact they have to select a different focus, medium and project group to work with. Below you'll find the cycle that they will be working through. Within the first day or two they'll have their personal due dates set. I recommend asking them for a copy of those dates so you can keep track of their progress at home. MathI'm really looking forward to getting back to a regular scheduled in math class. Due to all the snow days our weekly agenda has been thrown a little out of wack. Some of our math time over the last week was used to get caught up in projects. Here's a break down of what we did over the last week.
Monday: Project Time Tuesday: Textbook Reading Skills Wednesday: Ice Day Thursday: Book Check Friday: Project Time On Tuesday we worked on how to use our textbooks as a tool. Part of this was using them as a model to create our own guides. This is modeled on the process they developed in the 3rd and 4th grade classroom. Here's a link to the forms we worked on. If you're working with your child at home and they're struggling. I recommend you have them try to fill one of these out. Even if they can't they can bring in what they could do and we can talk about it in class.
