ScienceThis week in science most of the students wrapped up their first astronomy artifact. Students selected a host of topics to study. Some of the topics selected were experimental planes, the Moon, space photography, animals in space and the International Space Station. Students also selected a host of different ways to present that information. This includes videos, slideshows, models, and poster boards. At the conclusion of the project you'll have the opportunity to walk around and explore the work they've produced. Now that students have finished their first artifact they'll be moving on to their second. For their second artifact they have to pick a different focus, medium, and group size. They also can't work with the same people they worked with before. The reason for this choice was to force students a little out of their comfort zone. They have all built new skills in regards to project management and it will be fun to watch them work in a new environment. The number one way you all can help is to ask them what they are researching and give them feedback on their work. Feel free to use our a copy of the Feedback Form. Students are required to get feedback in between drafts and your feedback can be extremely helpful in that process. Just make sure to send the form back to school with them so they can add it to their binder. As always, if you have any questions feel free to email me and if you're extra curious you're more than welcome to come in to class to work with your child for a day. MathThis week we got back to our regular schedule. With all of the snow days recently it's been a little tough to get back into our grove in math. Here's what we worked on this week.
Monday: Snow Day Tuesday: Book Work Wednesday: Weekly Conference and Book Goal Check Thursday: Game Day (For students who hit their goal) Friday: SET or KenKen (First 15 minutes of class) If you don't know how to play SET or Ken Ken feel free to ask your children to show you. Both are great logic games that you can play online. Check out the Math Resource page for links. Here's the set of KenKen puzzles we worked through this week.
