HomeroomThis week in homeroom we talked about Spirit Week and started planning for that. We also spoke about keeping our cubby area clean and taking home anything that you don't need from that space. We're also going to be rolling out a new homeroom activity where we have a weekly thought to think and talk about. This week's thought was: It's OK to be positive. What's Coming Up in OWLNext week we're going to start our unit on Puberty. This is a pretty big topic in OWL and something the kids are both curious and anxious to learn about. Please take some time to read the chapters in It's Perfectly Normal this weekend. Having some time to think about this topic ahead of time makes it easier to talk about. Here's a link to the HomeLink that will help facilitate a conversation at home. MathMonday: No School Tuesday - Wednesday: Because we didn't have school on Monday we spent the whole week just working in our books. So no Word Problems or Number Talk. Thursday: Book Check Day Friday: Game Day! Project TimeThis week we started our next project on the human body. If you want to see an outline of the project check out this link. You'll also want to book mark the project page. That's where all of the relevant lesson documents will be stored as well as any resources we use in class. During this project we're going to also have a series of guest speakers come in to talk about their work in the field of health and medicine. Check the front page for a list of speakers and when they're coming in to talk. During the spotlight lesson this week we talked about the definition of life, how organisms are structured from atoms to bodies, and the four molecules of life. We also talked about how to read nutrition labels and connected that to our knowledge of the molecules of life. Questions to Ask Your ChildIn this section I'll try and give you a few questions to ask your kids to see what they learned this week or some of the ideas they were forming.
